Concept

Travelling – it is more than just a change of scenery. It means immersing yourself in the smells, the colours and feelings of another world. PASSAGEN, the customer magazine from Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, whisks the reader away on a 48-page voyage of discovery, whether as a travel companion, or a pre- or post-holiday accompaniment for all occasions.

Using authentic stories, sensory essays, fascinating portraits and spectacular images, PASSAGEN recreates the spirit of unique journeys and invokes the feeling that unites all travellers: the joy of discovery and the excitement of an expedition into the unknown, be it geographical, cultural or culinary.

The readers of PASSAGEN have a high affinity for enjoyment and luxury. Four times a year, PASSAGEN offers inspiration for the most noble form of travel; cruising. The average age of both customers and readers is 55, and PASSAGEN readers, having the financial means to fulfil their dreams, truly value quality in all areas of their lives. They appreciate things of lasting value and for them travelling is about broadening their wealth of experience.

In the current 2010 reader survey, 32% of all respondents declared that they spend up to 10,000 Euros annually on travel. A further 20% spend up to 15,000 Euro, 14% spend up to 20,000 Euro and 20% even spend over 20,000 Euro on travel each year. Alongside its popularity with the readers - 65% of respondents read PASSAGEN for 30 to 60 minutes, 25% spend over an hour reading the magazine, and 80% pass it on to two or three other people - PASSAGEN also received a Silver "Best of Corporate Publishing" Award in 2010.
